I would like more information about Catechesis of the Good Shepherd or Faith First.

St joseph & st mary virtual office website dimensions (3).png

The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is an approach to the religious formation for children ages 3 - 12. It originated in 1954 through the work of Dr. Sofia Cavalletti. The methodology of the Catechesis utilizes Montessori teaching principles to help children develop an informed and genuine relationship with God.

Classes are held on Tuesday evenings at 6:00 PM in the Mount Saint Peter Disciple Center. Catechesis of the Good Shepherd begins in early September usually around Catechetical Sunday.

I would like to learn more about the Music Ministry at St. Joseph Church

sj music.png

Whether you like to play or sing we have many opportunities for you to be involved in the music ministry at St. Joseph Church. Music opportunities include:

    • Cantor (audition required)

    • Adult Choir (open to Youth in Grade 8 and above)

    • Resurrection Choir (sings for funerals)

    • Men's Choir

    • Instrumentalist

Learn more about each of these music opportunities below.

Cantors

Cantors perform an important ministry by leading the assmbly in sung prayer. Both men and women are welcome to join the Cantor Ministry. Auditions are required to join and can be arranged by contacting Diane Painter, Director of Music.

Adult Choir

Adult Choir is a community of men and women who love to sing and are committed to support and enhance the assembly's worship on weekends and Feast Day Liturgies. We sing a variety of musical styles including contemporary, traditional, and classical. Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings from 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM and the choir is in recess through the summer months. New members are always welcome! Youth in Grade 8 and above are welcome to join.

Resurrection Choir

The Resurrection Choir sings for the funerals at St. Joseph Church. This ministry is meant to bring glory to God and consolation to the bereaved. Rehearsals for the Resurrection Choir take place before the Funeral Liturgy, which makes this choir ideal for those who cannot commit to a weekly rehearsal schedule but are still interested in sharing their musical talents. New members are always welcome!

Men's Choir

The Men's Choir is a male-only choir that sings several times during the church year. Rehearsals are on an as-needed basis.

Instrumentalist

Please contact Diane Painter, Director of Music, for more information about sharing your talents as an instrumentalist or accompanist at St. Joseph Church.

I have other questions about the Music Ministry opportunities at St. Joseph Parish.

Please complete the form below for all other inquiries about the Music Ministry at St. Joseph Parish including how to arrange an audition and what to do about conflicts with scheduled rehearsal times.

I want to learn more about the Mount Saint Peter Music Ministry

The Mount Saint Peter Music Ministry has always had a very strong legacy pertaining to quality liturgical music, a goal we continue to strive for today. With everyone’s schedules becoming increasingly more demanding, we are finding there are less and less people participating in the ministries of the Church. Therefore, in order to continue the success of our ministry, WE NEED YOU! I’ll say it once more, WE NEED YOU; from teenagers to twenty something and upward! Many of our current members are in the “upward age” category and will not be able to sustain their involvement in the Music Ministry much longer and that could result in the parish choir becoming extinct. We do not want to see that happen, WE NEED YOU! New members are always welcome to join the Music Ministry. It is not required that you read music. It is not required that you attend every rehearsal or every Liturgy scheduled with the Choir you are participating in.

Adult Choir

At Mt. St. Peter Parish, the Adult Choir typically rehearses from 6:30 PM-8:00 PM on Thursday evenings and the season begins mid to late September and continues until Pentecost. The Choir alternates singing Saturday afternoon at 4:30 PM and Sunday mornings at 10:30 AM throughout the year and sings for Christmas, an Epiphany Concert, Tenebrae, and the Paschal Triduum.

Handbell Choir

Did you ever want to play a musical instrument but never had the opportunity? We need people who are willing to ring bells for the Handbell Choirs at MSP! Although music reading is helpful, it is not required. The rehearsal time is as follows:

Handbell Choir - Wednesday Evenings from 4:30 PM - 6:00 PM. Contact David Leo to learn more or join!
